Bicycle Touring with Children A Guide to Getting Started Nancy SathreVogel 9780983718710 Books
First I was skeptical to read this book, as touring with children is not on my short term plan, as I don't have any yet. However, I've read some of the other books of the author, and liked them a lot, and thought to give it a go.And I was blown away. From the books I've read on bicycle touring, both available in amazon or self-published books on authors' websites, this stand out for me.
CONTENT
The authors toured a lot, and I could feel on the content it is from experience.
Still, the most interesting aspect of the book was the many insight I haven't read about in any other book. Like comparing how it is to tour with two single bikes, a tandem and a single bike, how it affects the tour when having a trailer. Most authors usually tell the obvious options and leave the reader with no help (in a "you must decide for yourself" style), however here I got pros and cons for all options.
The most interesting were the experiences about the impact on people's life in general (most books focus on bike touring gears, which sound very important at first, but after the first tour it is much less). I found it very interesting to read how their relationship changed before, while touring, and after the tour.
I also liked that the authors didn't go into details on: pieces of equipment (widely covered elsewhere), individual journeys they traveled (this is not a tour planning book or camping guide); but the focus was kept on presenting their general learning. Sometimes I could have appreciated some more practical detail, but it was good in general.
STYLE
The style was upbeat, light, and funny in a way, although there are no jokes in the book. I always felt motivated to worry less, and go out and continue touring. Sometimes it was a bit much ("don't worry, go"), but it was not disturbing. It was practical throughout. I don't expect "buddha-style" wisdom to be presented by someone who travels a lot, I mean some people just travel and enjoy the road and that's it, and this book was that type of style.
FORMAT
The e-book format was OK for the book, although, it was not written with the kindle format in mind. The photos could have been all full page and designed for the Kindle, and some more cross-references in the book to jump back and forth.
CONCLUSION
This is a great book if you want to tour with children. It's like a pain-killer pill, you read it, and you are not afraid anymore to tour with children. If you already travelled a lot by bike, or have toured a lot with children, I guess there will be less new information for you. However, I found the book much more helpful than just for bike touring with children: for bike touring in general, I learned a lot from it. Although I already knew many of the ideas presented, this is my favorite book on bike touring in general, and the one I tend to recommend.

Bicycle Touring with Children A Guide to Getting Started Nancy SathreVogel 9780983718710 Books Reviews
Too simple, not much detail. Seems to be designed for people who have never even traveled or camped with kids.
Good read, read it in a one-er! Some good tips about the what ifs and things to consider if you're touring with kids, not just on the bike, but keeping them amused otherwise. Good starter guide which is exactly what it says. You might need some more ground covered in order to feel like giving it a go with your kids, but for enough to consider a short tour of a few days.
Small book, quick read, motivational.
Practical and helpful insight into what goes into getting children ready for bicycle touring, and keeping them (and yourself!) going once you're out there
This ia an OK book to get you started - but nothing else more. There is no detail in the book, just kind of saying 'yes, you can do it'. What is needed is more practical advice, perhaps different tour activities for different age ranges, different education options for long trips, or mechanical advice that might be specific for this type of touring. All of that was kind of missed. There is a gap in the market here for a great book, but I still wish the authors well- they made a great start!
